West Ulverstone Tassie Champs

The 8-member team of West Ulverstone Primary School has won the Tasmanian Primary School Chess Team Championships. The Mercury reports that the school will now represent the Apple Isle at the Australian championships in Melbourne on 3 and 4 December this year.

School spokesman Russell Horton was quoted as saying, "This year the championships had its largest number of participants and the skills demonstrated were stronger than they have ever been in Tasmania".

Question: which national championships is it?

That is an easy question. There is only one National Championship advertised. Any other is a secret one.

In answer to your question "which national championships is it?", they're playing in the Chess Kids private event. They did not qualify for the ACF Schools Finals for reasons that were 100% not their fault - namely the complete failure of David Cordover and the ACF to reach or even approach agreement on the question of ACF schools levies.

The so-called Tasmanian primary schools teams champs is an excellent event but is also at this stage an unofficial/private title, again for the reasons mentioned above.
